The updated version of HB 52 introduces the Bilingual Multicultural Education Advisory Council, which is tasked with advising state education officials on how to effectively support bilingual learners and English language learners. This council is intended to ensure that these students have fair access to educational resources, in line with legal requirements. The creation of this council matters because it institutionalizes support for bilingual education and aims to improve educational outcomes for multicultural students in New Mexico.
