The updated version of Senate Bill 224 introduces a clear definition of the crime of failure to secure a firearm, establishing that firearm owners must store their weapons in a locked container or in a secured manner. This change emphasizes gun safety and aims to prevent unintentional access to firearms, particularly by children. It matters because it holds firearm owners accountable for how they store their weapons, potentially reducing gun accidents and enhancing community safety.
