The updated version of SB 57 now includes specific criteria for who can receive financial assistance for spaying and neutering dogs and cats. It establishes that only individuals or nonprofit organizations with a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for this aid. This change is important because it ensures that the support goes to those who may need it most, helping to address overpopulation of pets and improving animal welfare in New Mexico.
