The revised version of Bill SM 68 retains the core focus of supporting Sunland Park's efforts to establish a new noncommercial customs port but includes additional lines that emphasize the benefits of this border crossing. It highlights the potential for economic and cultural opportunities and mentions research indicating that the new crossing could alleviate traffic and reduce air pollution issues caused by current crossings in nearby El Paso. These changes are important because they not only strengthen the case for the new port but also address broader social and environmental concerns for the local community.
