The recent amendment to Bill SB 117 clarifies property tax limitations for low-income individuals who are either sixty-five years or older or disabled. Specifically, it ensures that the assessed value of their single-family homes for tax purposes cannot increase beyond a certain amount, which is set based on their income from the previous year. This change is significant because it helps protect vulnerable populations from rising property taxes, making housing more affordable for those who may be living on a fixed income or facing financial challenges.
