The updated version of SB 99 allows local school boards in New Mexico to grant high school diplomas to Vietnam veterans under specific conditions, including being honorably discharged and having attended high school in the area. This amendment clarifies that diplomas can be issued regardless of whether the veteran has an equivalency credential or is deceased. This change recognizes the sacrifices made by veterans and helps honor their contributions, providing a meaningful acknowledgment of their service and educational history.
