What changed in the latest version

The updated version of Bill SB 142 now specifically states that applicants for body art licenses—such as those for tattooing, piercing, or scarification—will be credited for equivalent training or experience they have gained outside of New Mexico. This change is significant as it opens up opportunities for skilled artists from other states to get licensed more easily, which could enhance the diversity and quality of body art services available in New Mexico. Additionally, it promotes fairness by acknowledging that professional training can be valuable, regardless of where it was obtained.
