The legislative amendment to SB 85 removes the exception that previously excluded domestic service workers from wage protections under New Mexico's Minimum Wage Act. This change means that domestic workers, such as housekeepers and caregivers, will now have the same wage rights as other employees. This matters because it provides greater financial security and fairness for those who often work in vulnerable positions without guaranteed pay standards.
