The changes to the bill establish the "Grow Your Own Teachers Act," which aims to support educational assistants who want to become teachers by providing scholarships and funding. It also allows these assistants to take professional leave for classes and offers distance education options for those living far from teacher preparation programs. This is important as it helps address teacher shortages by encouraging current educational assistants to advance their careers in teaching.
