Plain-language change summary

The revisions to House Bill 52 include the recognition that harm or threatened harm to companion animals is considered a form of domestic abuse. This change is important because it expands the definition of domestic violence to encompass not only the affected individuals but also their pets, acknowledging the emotional and psychological impact of domestic violence on animals and their owners. By recognizing this issue, the legislation aims to provide better protections for both people and animals in domestic abuse situations.
