The recent amendments to Bill SB 95 ensure that funds in an Individual Development Account (IDA) will not count against a person's eligibility for benefits under key public assistance programs in New Mexico, such as the New Mexico Works Act and the Education Works Act. Additionally, the bill sets limits on administrative costs for managing these accounts, establishes qualifications for council members overseeing IDAs, ensures state matching funds, and expands the ways individuals can use their IDA funds. These changes are significant as they aim to encourage savings and financial stability for low-income individuals without penalizing them when applying for assistance programs.
