Plain-language change summary

The changes made to House Bill 196 streamline the focus from amending the Human Rights Act to specifically enacting the Pregnant Worker Accommodation Act. This new version emphasizes the importance of protecting employees from discrimination based on pregnancy or childbirth and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for these employees. It also includes provisions to prevent retaliation against those who request such accommodations. This matters because it enhances workplace protections for pregnant individuals, ensuring they can remain healthy and productive without facing discrimination.
