The amendments to House Memorial 28 maintain the original intention of declaring February 5, 2019, as "Acequia Day" in New Mexico while adding more detail about the significance of acequias. The added lines highlight the historical and cultural role of acequias in local agriculture, community well-being, and economic diversification. These changes are important because they emphasize the contributions of acequias not just to water management, but also to the cultural heritage and economic stability of the region.
