The updated version of SB 131 includes the creation of the "Interagency Pharmaceuticals Purchasing Council," which will work to coordinate the purchasing of pharmaceuticals among state agencies to save costs. Changes emphasize strategies for cost-containment and identify opportunities to leverage public purchasing power in the private sector. The removal of references to an appropriation indicates that the bill now focuses more on establishing the council itself without directing specific funding at this time. This matters because it prioritizes collaboration among agencies to help lower healthcare costs for New Mexico residents.
