What changed in the latest version

The recent amendments to Bill SB 221 require health care providers to inform patients about the risks associated with opioid overdose and the availability of overdose reversal medication, specifically an opioid antagonist like naloxone. This change aims to encourage better communication between doctors and patients about the dangers of opioid use, ultimately helping to reduce the risk of overdose deaths. By making this advisory and co-prescribing practice mandatory under certain conditions, the bill seeks to empower patients with knowledge and tools for safer opioid usage.
