The updated version of SB 28 adds specific requirements for placing children in foster care. It now mandates that if a child is taken into protective custody, they must be placed with a relative if one is available. Additionally, it requires the Children, Youth, and Families Department to actively search for a relative to provide care and ensures that relatives start the licensing process within three days of taking custody. These changes are important as they aim to keep children connected to their family networks during a difficult time, which can be beneficial for their emotional well-being.
