The bill SB 5 has been amended to change the membership structure of the Interstate Stream Commission. It now requires that the four members appointed by the governor include at least one representative from a New Mexico Indian nation, tribe, or pueblo, along with representatives from irrigation districts and community ditches. This change is important because it aims to ensure that Indigenous voices and interests are included in decisions about water management, promoting broader representation in a critical area affecting New Mexico's resources.
