In the updated version of Bill HM 42, lines have been added that emphasize the importance of creating a working group focused on expanding prescribed fire practices in New Mexico. This change underscores the recognition of how prescribed fire can help manage ecosystems, reduce severe wildfire risks, and support various economic and recreational activities. By highlighting the benefits of prescribed fire, the bill aims to pave the way for more effective land management and greater community resilience against wildfires, which is particularly relevant given the increasing risk posed by large and severe wildfires in the region.
