The revised version of Bill SM 100 has added a request for a task force to explore the feasibility of increasing per diem rates for public officials and employees. This change highlights the need to reassess the current rates, which have not been updated since 2003 despite rising costs. The current per diem for state officials and employees is significantly lower than federal rates, meaning that employees are often required to cover extra costs out of their own pockets. This could help ensure fair compensation for public servants while reflecting current economic conditions.
