The revised bill SB 339 has shifted focus from just requiring minimum tobacco use cessation coverage for Medicaid recipients to implementing a comprehensive tobacco use cessation program. This change means that the bill now mandates that Medicaid not only covers approved medications for tobacco cessation but also that a structured program is in place to evaluate these medications. This is significant because it aims to enhance support for individuals trying to quit tobacco by ensuring they have access to essential treatment options and a more unified approach to cessation efforts.
