The updated version of Bill SJM 3 now includes a request for the Department of Transportation to form a committee that will consist of various state agencies and private entities. This committee is tasked with reviewing current and emerging autonomous vehicle technologies and developing a proposal to safely implement their use in New Mexico. This change matters because it highlights the state's commitment to exploring new technologies that could reduce traffic accidents, which are largely caused by human errors, while prioritizing public safety.
