The updated version of Bill HM 46 adds a request for the Higher Education Department and the Public Education Department to form a task force that will look into funding for the dual credit program and suggest a sustainable plan for its growth. This change emphasizes the importance of the dual credit program, which helps high school students take college courses while earning credits for both high school and college. It matters because strengthening this program can improve graduation rates and better prepare students for the workforce, addressing gaps in job skills in New Mexico.
