The updated version of SB 79 introduces a new tax credit specifically designed to encourage the installation of solar energy systems, such as solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, for residences, businesses, and agricultural enterprises. It repeals the previous solar market development tax credit, which had expired, and aims to ensure that taxpayers who install these systems after January 1, 2018, can still benefit from a financial incentive. This change is significant because it continues to support the development of renewable energy in New Mexico, promoting environmentally friendly practices and potentially reducing energy costs for residents and businesses.
