The latest version of Bill SB 2140 broadens its scope by changing the definition of "prohibited technology" to include any information technology that is deemed a risk to security, rather than just the TikTok platform specifically. This change matters because it allows for a flexible approach to restricting various technologies that may pose security risks, not just those explicitly identified, thus enhancing overall cybersecurity measures for state employees and their devices. Additionally, it removes special allowances for law enforcement agencies regarding TikTok, which means all state employees now face the same restrictions on technology use for consistency in security practices.
