Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 2377 allows parents to relinquish custody of an infant to emergency medical services by calling 911 and requires them to stay with the infant until help arrives. This change is important because it provides a safe and structured way for parents in difficult situations to ensure their child receives immediate care. The bill also clarifies the responsibilities of the Department of Child Protection Services and law enforcement once custody is relinquished, making sure there is an immediate investigation into whether the child is missing. Overall, these changes aim to protect the health and safety of infants while providing a clearer process for parents in crisis.
