The recent amendments to Bill HB 658 remove the previous provision that froze Medicaid provider reimbursement rates based on 2021 levels. This change is important as it allows for a more flexible review process where legislative committees can assess proposed changes to these rates, although they cannot veto them. Furthermore, it prevents the Division of Medicaid from contracting with any entity that has a history of fraud or abuse in relation to the state's Medicaid program, enhancing accountability within the system. Lastly, the amendment introduces the option for a Mississippi nonprofit organization to provide Medicaid services, potentially increasing service diversity and competition.
