The bill SB 2212 has made several important changes regarding the examination of pension funds in Illinois. Firstly, the requirement for pension funds to bear the costs associated with hiring examiners and specialists has been removed, shifting that financial burden elsewhere. Additionally, the examination schedule for downstate police and fire pension funds has been adjusted from every three years to every five years, which means these funds will be reviewed less frequently. Lastly, compliance fees for these pension funds have increased, allowing for a higher maximum amount that can be charged annually. These changes impact how pension funds are regulated, potentially affecting their oversight and financial health.
