Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 1648 adds new lines that clarify the eligibility of elected or appointed coroners to participate in the State’s pension fund as sheriff's law enforcement employees. It also allows these individuals to convert their prior service into pension benefits. This change is important because it expands retirement options for coroners, potentially enhancing their job appeal and ensuring they receive fair compensation for their service, while also addressing the financial responsibilities associated with these changes by stating that the implementation will not require additional state reimbursement.
