The amendment to Bill SB 2551 changes where a portion of the proceeds from asset forfeitures will go. Instead of funds being sent to the State Asset Forfeiture Fund, the bill now directs some money to the Attorney General's Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund, which supports whistleblower efforts. This shift is significant because it may enhance protections for whistleblowers while reallocating resources from the previous fund. Additionally, the amendment removed provisions for funding the Office of the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor, which could limit support for appeals related to prosecutions under this Act.
