Provides that if any benefits are paid with a date of service after the preceding policy lapse date, then the responsibility to pay shall be by the succeeding carrier, the employer, or by a combination of the parties pursuant to the terms of the new policy in force.

What changed in the latest version

The updated version of Bill HB 2687 clarifies the rules around cancelling group health insurance policies due to nonpayment of premiums. Now, if a policy lapses for nonpayment, it will automatically go back to the last day of the previous month when a premium was paid. Additionally, insured individuals can still cancel their policy with written notice until the end of the policy year. This change is important because it helps ensure that both policyholders and insurers understand their responsibilities regarding coverage and payment during the cancellation process.
