The recent amendments to Bill SB 90 introduce new provisions that enhance reporting requirements for animal control officers and other professionals who suspect child abuse or neglect. Specifically, these individuals must now report their suspicions about child abuse to the Department of Children and Family Services. Additionally, it strengthens protections for those who report suspected abuse or neglect by granting them immunity from legal liability, encouraging more people to come forward without fear of repercussions. This is significant because it aims to ensure that reports of abuse are taken seriously and addressed promptly, thereby enhancing the protection of both children and animals.
