Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 302 introduces a change that allows employees who have been laid off to gain credit for their service during their layoff when they return to state employment. However, they must apply for this credit within six months and meet certain conditions, such as not receiving credit from another source. This change is important because it gives laid-off employees a chance to restore their pension benefits, helping secure their financial future after reinstatement. Additionally, the funding for these new benefits will come from contributions made by the employees themselves, rather than state funds.
