What changed in the latest version
52 added · 91 removedPlain-language change summary
The latest version of SB 2248 now includes comprehensive amendments to Illinois laws concerning driving under the influence (DUI). Key changes state that DUI laws will apply not only to traditional vehicles but also to snowmobiles and watercraft, meaning that drivers can face similar penalties for operating these vehicles while intoxicated. This matters because it aims to enhance public safety by holding individuals accountable for impaired operation of all types of vehicles, not just cars. Additionally, the definition of a "first offender" has been broadened to cover related offenses involving snowmobiles and watercraft.
