The recent amendments to SB 2995 allow full-time employees of the Illinois Department of Transportation, specifically those in the position of highway maintainer, to count up to 5 years of their service at Illinois Veterans Homes toward their pension eligibility under an alternative formula. This enhancement is significant because it recognizes the contributions of workers who may have served in different capacities and helps to ensure they receive fair retirement benefits. The change also aims to provide better support for long-serving employees, acknowledging their service to both the state and veterans.
