Plain-language change summary

The changes to SB 1544 shift the focus from grants for capital improvements for members of the Illinois Food Bank Association to providing direct grants to food banks for purchasing food and related supplies. This matters because it prioritizes immediate support for food distribution efforts, helping to ensure that food banks can more effectively feed those in need. Additionally, the bill establishes a new provision for taxpayers to contribute to the Hunger Relief Fund directly on their tax returns, making it easier for individuals to support hunger relief initiatives.
