The recent amendment to Bill SB 1840 lowers the age requirement to obtain a Firearm Owner's Identification Card from 21 years to 18 years, allowing young adults to apply without needing a parent's or guardian's approval. This change matters because it expands access to firearms for younger individuals, which may raise concerns about safety and responsible ownership among potential gun owners and their communities.
