Plain-language change summary

The amendment to Bill SB 600 clarifies the process for electing members of the State central committee for political parties. It introduces a requirement that each party must declare whether they will elect male and female central committeemen separately, ensuring that both genders are represented. This matters because it aims to promote gender balance in political representation, making the selection process more equitable. Additionally, if a party has candidates of only one gender, it establishes a clear procedure for appointing someone to fill in the missing position, ensuring that all committees have both a male and a female representative.
