What changed in the latest version
7 added · 32 removedPlain-language change summary
The updated version of HB 5477 makes it clear that a township officer or board member will be considered to have vacated their position if they admit guilt to serious crimes, even before a formal conviction. This change is important because it allows for faster action against individuals who may pose a risk to public trust, ensuring that those who commit felonies, bribery, or perjury cannot remain in their positions while waiting for a court verdict. The amendment aims to enhance accountability and maintain integrity in local governance.
