The latest version of SB 3544 introduces significant changes to how school districts in Illinois can manage their Working Cash Funds. Notably, it removes a previous requirement that limited transfers of funds between districts based on need, allowing districts more flexibility to manage their finances. Additionally, the bill now clarifies that money in these funds can be used for any school-related expenses, which is important for addressing budget constraints and ensuring that funds are available for necessary expenditures. This flexibility could enhance the financial stability of smaller school districts.
