The recent changes to SB 325 shift the responsibility for establishing an agricultural exports program from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). This is significant because it puts economic development efforts focused on exporting agricultural products, especially dairy, meat, and crops, under the management of WEDC, potentially allowing for more coordinated strategies in boosting these key sectors. Additionally, the bill stipulates specific funding allocations for different agricultural exports, highlighting a targeted approach to support Wisconsin's farming economy.
