196 added · 24 removedPlain-language change summary
The amendment to Assembly Bill 799 removes the phrase "and making an appropriation," indicating that funding for the new Office of Water Policy will not be specified in this bill. Additionally, the language about specific activities and responsibilities of the office has been simplified or removed, streamlining the bill's focus. Importantly, it also pushes back the effective date of the bill to July 1, 2022, allowing more time for the office's establishment. These changes matter because they clarify the bill's intent and timeline, although they may raise questions about how the office will be funded and supported once it is created.
