What changed in the latest version
12 added · 22 removedPlain-language change summary
The recent amendments to Bill HB 2270 clarify the requirements regarding the release of incarcerated aliens from local jails in Virginia. The updated version now requires officials to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as soon as the release date is known, rather than seven days in advance. Additionally, the provision that penalized facilities for noncompliance by cutting state funding has been removed. These changes streamline the notification process, potentially speeding up the coordination with immigration enforcement, while also eliminating the financial penalties for local facilities.
