Plain-language change summary

The recent changes to Assembly Bill 817 specify that if a defendant is charged with bail jumping, they can only be released if they secure a bond backed by cash or sureties. Previously, judges had more discretion in releasing these defendants, which included possible unsecured releases. This amendment is significant because it aims to ensure that individuals charged with bail jumping demonstrate financial responsibility before being released, potentially making it more difficult for repeat offenders to evade accountability.
