Plain-language change summary

The amendments to SB 1269 clarify how schools should handle closures due to emergencies, like severe weather. The bill now requires that if schools miss up to five days, they must make up those days either by extending the school year or lengthening the school day to meet the required teaching hours. Additionally, if schools cannot make up the lost time, they can request a waiver from the Board of Education, which must be supported by showing that all reasonable efforts to reschedule were made. This is important because it ensures students receive the necessary amount of instructional time while providing a structured process for handling emergencies.
