The legislation has been amended to remove the requirement that applicants for reinstatement to a police department must reside within the city's corporate limits at the time of their application. This change allows individuals who may have left the department but live outside the city to still be considered for reappointment, as long as they meet other conditions. It matters because it expands the pool of qualified applicants and could help fill police department vacancies with experienced officers.
