Plain-language change summary

The revised version of SB 97 now explicitly states that the Governor's delay in filling a judicial vacancy is a reason why senior judges or justices may continue to receive their per diem compensation after they have already collected a sitting circuit judge's annual salary. This clarification is significant because it addresses a legal issue raised in a prior court case, where a senior judge challenged the constitutionality of compensation limitations. By reaffirming this provision, the bill aims to ensure that the compensation structure for senior judges remains clear and enforceable under state law.
