Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill SB 468 change the funding allocated to the assistant state public defender pay progression plan. Instead of originally providing $1,404,400 for the 2019-20 fiscal year, it has been reduced to $468,200. This reduction in funding is significant because it affects the salaries of public defenders, potentially impacting their ability to progress in pay and maintain job satisfaction, which could have broader implications for the quality of public defense in the state. Additionally, the bill now specifies an effective date of March 1, 2020.
