Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 5357 allows cities to impose an additional tax for affordable housing, alongside counties, and the maximum tax rate has been split into two options: half a percent for counties and a quarter percent for cities. This change is important as it provides more flexibility for local governments to raise funds for affordable housing initiatives, potentially increasing the availability of these essential housing resources in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, the revised bill emphasizes that tax proceeds must be used solely for developing affordable housing, ensuring that the funds are directed where they are most needed.
