The changes to Bill SB 593 expand the age range for autism spectrum disorder treatment coverage from ages two to ten years, to now include individuals from two years to eighteen years. This adjustment, effective January 1, 2019, ensures that more children and young adults can access necessary treatments as they grow older. Additionally, the bill reinforces that insurance coverage cannot be denied solely based on a diagnosis of autism, further protecting individuals who require ongoing care. These amendments are significant as they promote better health support and accessibility for individuals with autism.
