Plain-language change summary

The amendment to Bill HB 702 lowers the maximum assessment that counties, cities, or towns can charge for civil actions from $7 to $4. This change means that filing a civil action in court will be less expensive for individuals and businesses. The collected fees will still be used to support local law libraries, covering costs like books, research services, and librarian salaries, ensuring access to legal resources for the public. This adjustment may help make legal proceedings more affordable while still maintaining important library services.
